Grounded in the ancestral metaphor of voyaging and navigation, the programme equips participants to lead with courage, moral clarity, cultural integrity, and intuitive intelligence in complex educational environments. Te Ara Whakatere is made up of three stand-alone 2-day workshops. Kaiako can participate in all three workshops or attend individual workshops. In this workshop, through the navigation elements of waka and moana, kaiako explore identity, whakapapa and leadership origins, as well navigating systems and complexity.

TRAVEL REQUESTS CLOSED This 2-day Ako Panuku Wānanga Reo is designed specifically for teachers focusing on the impact of teaching on student learning. Strong links to the Te Reo Māori curricula and the use of resources already in schools will be promoted, as well as the development of new resources for inspiring learning. Te reo Māori is the main language of instruction and learning at wānanga reo. You will be expected to communicate as much as possible in te reo Māori. PLEASE NOTE: We will offer a second Wānanga Reo in Christchurch on 7 - 8 November 2024. Preference will be given to kaiako who register for their nearest location. While the learning outcomes remain the same, the specific content of each wānanga may vary.

A two-day workshop designed for kaiako who want to strengthen their teaching practice of reo ā-waha and reo ā-tā, including vocabulary development. Participants are expected to attend the workshop closest to their location. It is recommended that kaiako attend BOTH workshop days. However, kaiako can choose to attend either day 1 or day 2. Reo ā-Waha will be the focus on day 1, and Reo ā-Tā on day 2. Day 2 - Reo ā-Tā strategies require ākonga to be reading and writing independently. Day 2 content is mostly suitable for kaiako teaching at intermediate and secondary/wharekura levels.

This two-day course is designed to strengthen kaiako understanding of the NCEA co-requisite requirements for Te Reo Matatini, including the implications for programme development. Whilst the course is particularly suitable for kaiako teaching year 7-10 students, it is still appropriate for kaiako teaching students leading up to year 7 and beyond year 10.

This two-day course is designed to strengthen kaiako understanding and teaching of Pāngarau. The content of the course is aligned to the concepts, ideas, strategies, and skills outlined in each of the five tūārere (phases of learning) of the redesigned Pāngarau wāhanga ako. Suitable for all kaiako teaching Pāngarau, whether in kura tuatahi, kura waenga, or wharekura. It is particularly suitable for kaiako who want to ‘understand the pāngarau’ they are teaching and looking to improve the pāngarau learning experiences of their ākonga.
